For four days before Lent, Panaji's streets fill with a Portuguese-rooted parade of floats, music, and costumed revelry led by the legendary King Momo.

King Momo opens Goa's Carnival with a mock decree of merriment, kicking off four days of parades that move between Panaji, Margao, Vasco, and Mapusa, blending Goa's Portuguese-era heritage with present-day street festival energy.

Goa Carnival is India's best-known Portuguese-heritage festival and widely covered in travel media, though the specific float-parade format remains distinct within India.
